It's Your Time Now
John du Pont: "Mark, you have been living in your brother's shadow your entire life. It's time. It's your time now."
Mark Schultz: "I know what you mean."
John du Pont: "Do you?"
Mark Schultz: "Cause everything that I've done, I feel like, somehow has been credited to Dave and I feel like it's time to distance myself from him, you know, become my own person."

John offers Mark a pep talk about finding his own way in life. He reminds Mark of how long he's played second fiddle to brother Dave's success and urges him to write his own story.
I Want to See This Country Soar Again
John du Pont: "Mark, we as a nation has failed to honor you. I want to see this country soar again."

John explains his feelings on the potential and hidden value of men's Olympic wrestling. He sees Mark and the other wrestlers as under-appreciated and wants to change that.
I Am Giving America Hope
Jean Liseter Austin du Pont: "I think we'll give it to the children's museum, if they have room."
John du Pont: "I don't care what they do with the train set. I don't care about trains. Mother, I am leading men. I am training them. I am teaching them. I am giving them a dream and I am giving America hope."
Jean Liseter Austin du Pont: "Hope? It doesn't matter. I'm glad you have your trophy. It can go in the trophy room, not in the rosemont case. I don't like the sport of wrestling, as you know. It's a low sport and I don't like to see you being low."

John explains to his mother, Jean, his goals in being involved with the American wrestling team. Jean, however, does not share his dream, calling wrestling "a low sport."
A Coach Has Great Power
John du Pont: "A coach is the father. A coach is a mentor. A coach has great power on athlete's life."

I Want to Be the Best
John du Pont: "Do you have any idea why I asked you to come here today?"
Mark Schultz: "No"
John du Pont: "No. Mark, do you have any idea who I am?"
Mark Schultz: "No"
John du Pont: "Some rich guy calls you on the phone. 'I want Mark Schultz to come visit me.' Well, I'm a wrestling coach and I have a deep love for the sport of wrestling and I wanted to speak to you about your future, what you hope to achieve. What do you hope to achieve, Mark?"
Mark Schultz: "I want to be the best in the world. I want to go to worlds and win gold. I want to go to the 88 Olympics in Seoul and win gold."
John du Pont: "Good, I'm proud of you."

John summons Mark to his home but initially gives little detail on why. When Mark arrives, John explains how they have similar goals, to bring great things to American wrestling.
What Does He Get Out of All of This?
Dave Schultz: "Who are you going to train with?"
Mark Schultz: "No, no, I meant, we as in me and you, picking a team. Mr. du Pont and I would love to have you."

Dave Schultz: "Mark, I can't leave. I'm settled here. Nancy's happy. Xander's doing well at school."
Mark Schultz: "They can come."
Dave Schultz: "Mark, I've got a contract. I've got commitments."

John du Pont talks about psychological issues as one thing holding them back from winning a gold medal. He speaks that Mark has these issues but really, if Mark has psychological issues, he sure isn't the only one.
The Big House is Off Limits
du Pont's assistant: "There is a key for you. Also, the big house is off limits."
Mark Schultz: "Okay"

John invites Mark to live on his property while he trains at the Foxcatcher. There are some rules, however, mainly that Mark is not permitted in John's home.
I've Spent My Lifetime Looking for a Father
Mark Schultz: "I've spent my lifetime looking for a father and I have found one in John du Pont."

Mark is, for lack of a better word, smitten with John and eating into his role as a coach, mentor and father figure. Whatever John is selling, Mark is buying.
