“Annie” movie quotes bring the classic Broadway musical back to the big screen in a modern adaptation. Produced by the likes of Jay-Z and Will Smith, the musical comedy-drama was directed by Will Gluck using a screenplay he co-authored with Aline Brosh McKenna and Emma Thompson. “Annie” opened in theaters on December 19, 2014.
In “Annie,” the title character (Quvenzhané Wallis) is an orphan living with evil foster mom Colleen Hannigan (Cameron Diaz). A chance encounter with billionaire and hopeful New York City mayor Will Stacks (Jamie Foxx) leads Annie to go live with him, with the idea that the positive public relations boost from him taking in this foster child will be enough to win him the election.
But as Annie and Mr. Stacks spend more time together, the develop a real bond from which they both benefit. This, however, is interrupted when Will’s staff members Guy (Bobby Cannavale) and Grace (Rose Byrne) stage an event to reunite Annie with her parents, or at least folks hired to portray her parents in front of the media. Knowing his campaign and future in public office is on the line, Mr. Stacks has a tough decision between letting Annie go, perhaps back into foster care, or keeping her in his home as part of his family.
“Annie” hits theaters just in time for the holidays alongside other films including "Penguins of Madagascar," "Interstellar," "The Theory of Everything," and "Big Hero 6."
Annie Movie Quotes,
I Love This City
Will Stacks: “I love this city. The harder I work, the more opportunities I get. No matter who you are or what you are, you’ve just gotta want it bad enough.”
Will Stacks know that he is fortunate but also knows that he worked hard to get where he is. The opportunity for him to do that is just one reason he loves the city of New York and wants to be its mayor.
Is He Nice?
Tessie: “Is he nice?”
Annie: “I think so. He just doesn’t know it yet.”
Annie describes Mr. Stacks to her fellow foster girls. Annie sees something in him that others cannot and makes it her mission to bring it out.
We All Have Families Somewhere
Mia: “Can you read your note again?”
Annie: “Please take care of our baby. Her name’s Annie. There’s half a locket around her neck. So when we come for her, we know that she’s our girl.”
Pepper: “Annie’s never going to find her family, none of us are.”
Annie: “We all have families somewhere.”
As the foster girls chat in their shared bedroom, their differences in outlooks on life, specifically their chances of being reunited with their biological families, are highlighted. While Pepper thinks the girls are delusional, Annie makes no apology for her optimism.
We Found Her Parents
Guy: “It’s a miracle. We found her parents.”
Grace: “We think so.
Guy and Grace announce that they’ve found Annie’s parents, or at least that is what they want people to think. In reality, Guy has only hired actors to stage a publicity event to help Will’s candidacy.
Pretty Fun Though, Right?
Will Stacks: “I don’t think I had a marshmallow until I was eight years old.”
Annie: “Pretty fun though, right?”
Will Stacks: “Let me see how small a bite of graham cracker I can take.”
The simple act of toasting a marshmallow over an open flame brings Mr. Stacks and Annie together. While he won’t admit it to many, he is bonding with the girl.
The More We're Seen Together
Isabella: “Someone just posted a picture of Annie on Twitter.”
…
Grace: “William Stacks would love to take Annie out for lunch.”
Colleen Hannigan: “Why?”
…
Grace: “People want to know that you’re okay.”
Annie: “What people?”
Grace: “Everybody who saw that.”
Annie: “Whoa! My hair’s gigantic.”
…
Annie: “So, what’s the hustle?”
Will Stacks: “The more we’re seen together, the better is it for my campaign.”
Annie: “I bet if I moved in with you, you’d become president.”
When a photo of Mr. Stacks saving Annie goes viral, the two meet for lunch. Annie sees that he is using her for publicity and offers a plan to improve her life in return.
Your Secret's Safe with Me
Will Stacks: “Annie, she’s changing everything.”
Grace: “Your secret’s safe with me… That you care.”
Grace reveals to Will that she sees how Annie has changed him and made him care, for real, about the girl. This, however, she will keep in the utmost confidence.
Like Batman
Grace: “Just because you can run for mayor doesn’t mean that you should.”
Will Stacks: “This city needs me.”
Grace: “All right, take it easy, Batman.”
…
Will Stacks: “What up, Guy-O?”
Guy: “You’re up five points in the polls!”
Grace: “Really?”
Guy: “He saved a little girl from getting hit by a van.”
Grace: “You didn’t tell me you saved a little girl.”
Will Stacks: “Like Batman.”
Guy: “Will, this is really going to help your race for mayor… Her name is Annie.”
…
Grace: “You’re not really thinking about doing this?”
Will Stacks: “We won’t even know she’s there. It’s like having a turtle.”
Guy: “I wonder if she has her shots.”
Will and assistant Grace discuss his venture to become mayor of New York City. While he might be a little egocentric, he does prove to be a bit heroic on occasion too.
Made You Breakfast
Annie: “Made you breakfast! Don’t let your food get cold!”
Will Stacks: “Mmm, okay. Annie, you got me eating this thing up like a dog. Mmm, this is good. What is this, paprika? Mmm, oregano?”
Annie, meaning well, cooks breakfast for her Mr. Stacks. It’s burned and disgusting but he tries to play along to please her while instead feeding it to the dog.
Why Are You Running?
Will Stacks: “Why are you running?”
Annie: “It gets me places quicker.”
Will Stacks: “Little kids, kids with germs”
A chance meeting between little orphan Annie and billionaire Will Stacks sets off a chain of events that will change both of their lives forever. Luckily for both, someone caught this moment on video and it’s about to go viral.
