A Bigger Splash Movie Quotes

A Bigger Splash movie quotes tell the story of a rock star and photographer whose private vacation is crashed by an old flame and his daughter. The thriller was written by David Kajganich using a story created by Alain Page as loosely inspired by the 1969 French film La Piscine. Directed by Luca Guadagnino, A Bigger Splash opened in theaters in the United States on May 4, 2016.

In A Bigger Splash, renowned rock star Marianne Lane (Tilda Swinton) and her photographer boyfriend Pail De Smedt (Matthias Schoenaerts) are enjoying peace and quiet on vacation on an Italian island. So when a cell phone rings and an airplane flies overhead, they learn that their private getaway is being interrupted by Harry Hawkes (Ralph Finnes), an old flame of Marianne's, and his daughter, Penelope Lanier (Dakota Johnson).

Despite very much wanting privacy, Marianne invites Harry and Penelope to stay with her and Paul. This causes a great deal of tension between Marianne and Paul, as Paul wonders if Marianne still has feelings for Harry. It doesn't help that Harry still has major feelings for Marianne and spends a great deal of time trying to convince her that she doesn't need Paul. As tensions rise, the fight for Marianne reaches dangerous new levels.

A Bigger Splash joined theaters in early May 2016 alongside the likes of Ratchet & Clank, Mother's Day, Keanu, and A Hologram for the King.
A Bigger Splash Movie Quotes,

When Did We Last Do This?
Harry Hawkes: When did we last do this? How many years ago?

Dancing with Marianne, Harry reminisces about their time together many years ago. He clearly misses her and still keeps her in his heart, but if she returns those feelings is yet unknown.
She's the Woman of the Century
Harry Hawkes: She is the woman of the century and I'l talking about her soul now. She is the woman of the century and I don't know what I've done.

Speaking about Marianne, Harry explains just how much he values her. He also explains a bit of regret, though he doesn't elaborate on what he regrets specifically.
You Don't Deserve Marianne
Paul De Smedt: Just stop talking... The world is not ready for your honesty... You're obscene.
Harry Hawkes: Everyone's obscene. That's the whole point... You don't deserve Marianne.
Paul De Smedt: Neither do you.

Paul and Harry do not get along, as usually happens when two men compete for the attention of the same woman. Neither feel the other deserves Marianne, and they are probably not wrong.
I Fall in Love With Every Pretty Thing
Penelope Lanier: I fall in love with every pretty thing.

Like many young women her age, Penelope loves love. She falls in love with just about anything, Paul included.
What's the Point of Paul?
Harry Hawkes: What's the point of Paul in your life anymore?

Harry questions Marianne about why she keeps Paul around in her life. It seems as though Harry feels he is a better partner for her than Paul and is bound to make her see that.
We're Better Than Brothers
Harry Hawkes: We were friends. We were better than brothers.

Harry remarks on how he sees his relationship with Marianne. He explains that they are like family, but better. How he really feels, though, is another story.
Pretty Domesticated for a Rock Star
Penelope Lanier: You're pretty domesticated for a rock star.
Marianne Lane: Have I done anything to upset you?

In meeting Marianne, Penelope is a bit surprised at how normal a life Marianne, a celebrated rock star, lives. Marianne does not take the comment as a compliment.
That Doesn't Mean You Don't Want Some
Penelope Lanier: Do you want some?
Paul De Smedt: No, I don't smoke.
Penelope Lanier: That doesn't mean you don't want some.

In what seems like flirting, Penelope asks Paul if he'd like some of her cigarette. While he declines, Penelope continues to push.
You Asked Him to Stay
Paul De Smedt: You asked him to stay. Why is that?

Paul questions Marianne about why she asked former flame Harry to stay with them on their tropical getaway. Being that Paul is Marianne's current love, Paul isn't sure how to interpret this development.
I've Found You!
Paul De Smedt: I hate that sound. Hello?
Harry Hawkes: Ahaha, I've found you!
...
Harry Hawkes: God, I am so happy to see you! You can talk, can't you? Come on, tell me you're better. Yes, you are.
Paul De Smedt: I'm sorry we didn't call but we're hiding out.
Harry Hawkes: Not from me! Meet Marianne and Paul.
Paul De Smedt: Oh, I should have known you'd bring a protege.
Penelope Lanier: I'm his daughter.
Harry Hawkes: The looks on your face!

As Paul and Marianne lay on a beach in peace, a cell phone rings, airplane flies overhead and suddenly, Harry and daughter Penelope are there to join in the fun. Harry and Penelope were not invited and don't seem to take the hint that they are somewhat unwelcome.
