The comedy-drama film, which is based on real events, was written by Joey Sagal, Hanala Sagal and Cary Elwes. Liza Johnson directed Elvis & Nixon, which opened in theaters on April 22, 2016.
In Elvis & Nixon, on a whim one day in 1970, Elvis Presley (Michael Shannon) hops on a plane, writes a long letter to President Richard Nixon (Kevin Spacey) and arrives at the White House demanding to meet the commander in chief. While few, including top White House advisors Egil Krogh (Colin Hanks) and Dwignt Chapin (Evan Peters), know how to react, they end up convincing Nixon that a meeting with Elvis would be good to bring in younger voters.
So on December 21, 1970, Elvis, along with his entourage (including Alex Pettyfer and Johnny Knoxville), show up at the White House and receive strict orders about protocols for the visit. But the best-laid plans cannot survive the free spirit that is Elvis Presley and his meeting in the Oval Office with President Nixon does not quite go as planned, rather much funnier.
