Safe Haven Movie Quotes

"Safe Haven" movie quotes tell the tale of one woman running from her dark past who falls in love after settling in a small South Carolina town. The romantic thriller was directed by Lasse Hallstrom based on an adapted screenplay by Gage Lansky and Dana Stevens. Nicholas Sparks, known for "The Notebook," provided the story for the film with his novel of the same name. "Safe Haven" was released on February 14, 2013, in the United States.

In "Safe Haven," Katie Feldman (Julianne Hough) is introduced while fleeing from Boston via bus to South Carolina. She barely escapes with detectives hot on her trail. Upon arriving in Southport, Katie settles down in the tiny, quaint town. She moves into a house, gets a job and makes one close friend, Jo (Cobie Smulders).

Katie also meets a charming man, Alex (Josh Duhamel), but despite his best intentions, Katie refuses to open her heart to him. Finally once Katie realizes that he too is vulnerable, having lost his wife a few years earlier, does she allow herself to fall in love with him. This comes however at an untimely moment as right when Katie is getting comfortable with Alex in Southport is when the authorities from Boston have tracked her down.

"Safe Haven" joins a Valentine's Day movie lineup that includes many other blockbusters plus previously released great movies such as "A Glimpse Inside the Mind of Charles Swan III," "Side Effects," "Identity Thief," "Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters," "Stand Up Guys," "Warm Bodies," "Bullet to the Head," "Movie 43," "Django Unchained," "Killing Them Softly," "Hitchcock," "Skyfall," "Lincoln," "Flight," "Playing for Keeps," and "Silver Linings Playbook."

A Change of Pace

Jo: "How are you liking Southport?"
Katie: "It's definitely a change of pace."
Jo: "From what?"
Katie: "Somewhere where I don't really want to go back to."

Katie gives a glimpse of her dark past when opening up slightly to Jo. Katie explains that she likes Southport because it's nothing like her former life.
Stop the Bus!

Detective Tierney: "Have you seen this woman?"
Bus Station Clerk: "I don't think so."

Detective Tierney: "Stop the bus, Boston PD!"

As Katie makes her escape from Boston, Detective Tierney is just a few steps too late in stopping her and the bus she's boarded. This however does not mean the detective is giving up in his chase.
I Just Can't Take It

Katie: "Did you leave this outside my house last night?"
Alex: "It was just sitting in my shed. I see you walking everyday. It's perfect for you."
Katie: "I appreciate it but, I just, I can't take it."
Alex: "All right"

Trying to help, Alex leaves Katie a bicycle for her to use to get around town. Katie, not wanting to get attached or own anyone anything, refuses the kind gesture.
I'll Give You a Lift

Alex: "I had this extra can of primer in the back. I thought you might want to put this down before you put the paint down."
Katie: "Oh, yeah, great. I didn't even think about that."
Alex: "So let me grab my keys. I'll give you a lift."
Katie: "No, thanks, I'm fine."
Alex: "You're going to walk all the way back with the cans."
Katie: "Yep, I'm good."

Knowing Katie has a long walk with heavy paint cans, he offers her a ride. Initially, she resists but after she grows tired only a fraction of the way into the walk, she relents and accepts his help.
His Wife

Waitress: "Did you hear about his wife? She passed away a few years ago."

Katie's view of Alex changes when a waitress informs her that Alex's wife died a few years earlier. Instead of seeing him as someone to keep distant, Katie can relate to having an unfortunate past.
Clean, Empty Canvas

Alex: "Why Southport?"
Katie: "It looks like this, a clean, empty canvas."

Enjoying a day at the beach, Katie and Alex talk about why Katie chose to settle down in the small town. For Katie, Southport represents a place where her past cannot haunt her, essentially giving her a fresh start.
I Can't Let You Go

Katie: "He's gonna find me."
Alex: "If you're in some kind of trouble we can fix it. I love you and I can't let you go. There's no safer place for you than here with me."

Upset that the law is closing in on her, Katie explains why she must move on from this perfect South Carolina town. Alex however disagrees, urging her to face her past so they can both move forward with their lives together.
Does It Get Better With Time?

Katie: "Does it get better with time?"
Alex: "Yeah, yeah, at first I tried to avoid any place we went together. I tried to forget. I tried to put it all behind me. I tried to, you know, just look forward but it just didn't work and I realized that if I'm not thinking about her, who is? You know, and she was an amazing woman and I loved her. I want my kids to know that. I want them to know her. So, we're just keeping our heads down. I'm getting to play mom and dad, which is interesting. Just trying to keep it all together, really. But today with you, this is probably the first time I've looked up."
Katie: "It's a perfect day."

Alex explains to Katie the difficulties of dealing with losing a spouse and his range of emotions that followed his wife's death. He does however mention the light at the end of the tunnel he found when spending time with Katie.
I've Had Things Happen to Me

Jo: "Why won't you let him get to know you?"
Katie: "I've had things happen to me in the past, things that still scare me."

Jo wonders why Katie insists on keeping to herself, especially when there's an attractive man ready to sweep her off her feet. Katie responds noting the still open wounds from her past.
Just a Pit Stop

Alex: "It's usually just a pit stop for some people."
Katie: "I like it here."
Alex: "I'm Alex, nice to meet you."

Alex and Katie meet for the first time when Katie visits Alex's shop for some groceries. Alex is surprised to see a new face in town since rarely do people spend more than a short time there.
