Dope movie quotes tell the story of a high school student from Inglewood, California, whose life is temporarily knocked off course en route to Harvard. The comedy-drama was written and directed by Rick Famuyiwa. With Forest Whitaker, Pharrell Williams and Sean Combs among the producers, Dope opened in theaters on June 19, 2015.
In Dope, Malcolm (Shameik Moore) is a straight-A student in a portion of Inglewood, California, known as the Bottoms. He is applying to Harvard and for his application, he makes a video where he introduces himself along with his two closest friends, Jib (Tony Revolori) and Diggy (Kiersey Clemons), the three of which play in a punk band.
While Malcolm is focused on college and his love of 90s rap music, his life is temporarily derailed after a visit to a drug dealer's (A$AP Rocky) party to impress a girl (Zoe Kravitz) sends him and his friends (including Blake Anderson) on a journey to sell a backpack full of drugs. While the adventure is quite out of the ordinary for Malcolm and his geeky bunch, it will surely make a good story should he need something outrageous for his college application.
Dope opens alongside other great summer 2015 films including Inside Out, Jurassic World, Love & Mercy, and Entourage.
Dope Movie Quotes,
William Ian Sherwood
Narrator: William Ian Sherwood the third, musician, scholar, rake, entrepreneur, conspiracy theorist. Malcolm, Jib and Diggy met William at band camp three years ago.
...
William: Yo, you n****s need some weed? I got you. Good s***, fair prices.
...
Narrator: William assured them that he used the word n**** only as a term of endearment as explained by Q-Tip in the classic song "Sucka Nigga." After that, they all hit it off, though, he never used that word again.
The Narrator introduces William, a friend of Malcolm, Job and Diggy. While they are a unique group of friends, somehow they all fit together.
You Think You're Going to Get Into Harvard?
Malcolm: If Neil deGrasse Tyson were writing about Ice Cube, this is what it would look like.
Mr. Bailey: You go to high school in Inglewood. You think you're going to get into Harvard?
Malcolm: I'm from a poor, crime-filled neighborhood, raised by a single mother, don't know my dad, blah, blah. It's cliche.
Malcolm tries his best to explain to Mr. Bailer just how cliche is it that he wants to go to Harvard, but also that he has the accomplishments and intelligence to do so. Mr. Bailey is not so sure.
My Name is Malcolm Arakanbe
Malcolm: Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Malcolm Arakanbe. I'm a straight-A student with nearly perfect SAT scores. I play in a punk band with my friends and I'm a 90s hip hop geek. A bad day for most geeks would be being the butt of jokes but when you live in the Bottoms, a bad day could look like this.
In a video, Malcolm introduces himself to the public. He explains a little about his academics, his friends, interests and what a bad looks like in a day in his life.
What I Left in Your Backpack
Dom: Yo, McFly, do you have what I left in the backpack?
Jib: Did he actually say, I'll kill you and your friends if you don't get rid of these drugs' or just you? Don't act like you weren't curious too.
Diggy: All we gotta do is find the white people, go to Coachella, Lollapalooza.
The friends learn that Dom has planted drugs in Malcolm's backpack and is forcing them to sell them. They know nothing about drug dealing, but know they need to find some rich white folks to buy them.
Photogenic Brains
Dom: He's probably got one of those photogenic brains.
Malcolm: You mean photographic memory?
Dom: What I just say?
Malcolm: I mean, yeah, you just said it, reiterating.
When Malcolm tries to correct thug Dom, he wasn't quite ready for the response Dom gives him back. Malcolm tries to slyly come out of the conversation not looking like a fool, but that doesn't go well either.
Malcolm Lives in Inglewood
Narrator: Malcolm lives in Inglewood, California, in the Darby-Dixon neighborhood referred to as the Bottoms.
Jib: Give me your bike!
Narrator: Malcolm's friends Jib and Diggy are also geeks.
Jib: All I wanna do is a zoom, zoom, zoom and a boom boom.
Malcolm: Word.
The Narrator introduces the main characters of the film, Malcolm, Jib and Diggy. They all like to ride bikes around their hood and, like most high school boys, are extremely interested in the ladies.
We Know Nothing About Drugs
Malcolm: We don't know nothing about drugs. You do. We need to know if you're going to help us.
William: Okay
...
Malcolm: Nobody's going to suspect a thing. We're just doing what geeks do.
Jib: I don't want to go to jail. I want to go to college!
With no idea how to move drugs, the friends reach out to William for some help. Luckily, William is ready to help them sell drugs, whether Jib wants to or not.
We're Not Going to a Drug Dealer's Birthday Party
Malcolm: I have my Harvard interview tomorrow. We're not going to a drug dealer's birthday party.
...
Nakia: Well, I'll go if you go.
Malcolm: Um
Nakia: So are you going to ask me to dance or what?
When it's suggested that they attend a birthday party of a drug dealer, Malcolm shuts the idea down, citing his big Harvard interview the next day. But when pretty girl Nakia mentions wanting to go, Malcolm's priorities change.
A Slippery Slope
Malcolm: We were dancing, man.
Dom: If I let this slide, we got what you call a slippery slope. Do you know what a slippery slop is?
Crip: Do it got anything to do with skiing?
Dom: Sit your ass down!
Dom interrupts a dance between Malcolm and Nakia, claiming possession of Nakia. This soon turns into a vocabulary lesson with his buddies.
You Want to Come In?
Jaleel: Yo, Lilu, what are you doing opening the door butt ass naked for? Excuse my dumbass sister, man. What up?
Malcolm: Are you AJ?
Jaleel: No, that's my dad.
Malcolm: I need to speak to him. It's about boys' club.
Jaleel: Right, right, well, my dad's at his office for like a couple hours but y'all could hang out here until he gets back if you want.
Malcolm: We, um, you know...
Jaleel: Hey, you want to come in?
Malcolm: Yeah, yeah
Jaleel: Come in
Looking for AJ, Malcolm and friends come upon Jaleel and Lily. Seeing that AJ is not around and Lily is going through various stages of undress, they take the opportunity to stay for a while.
